Seismic Monitoring Station

At Faith, Hope and Charity we have a seismic monitoring station.  Our station was recently part of the sub-array named the “Cascadia Initiative”.  Led by UO prof Doug Toomey, this array was innovative in the sense that onshore AND offshore seismometers were co-deployed to try and unravel the secrets of the plate systems here in the PacNW.  Follow the link for more information on this.  Click for more info
Currently, the equipment is owned by UO and is part of the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN), a co-op between UW, UO, and the USGS.  We collectively operate and maintain the seismic network throughout OR and WA.
You can look at data from our station here!  (note, on March 20, and earthquake can be seen…I think it was from somewhere in the west Pacific!)
Lastly, I want to point out that stations like our’s will contribute to a soon-to-be-releases West Coast Earthquake Early Warning System.  In a nutshell, the system will be able to detect earthquakes within 5 seconds or so, then instantly calculate the location, magnitude, and how long it will take for the energy to arrive at other locations.  This will allow users (public, state and federal gov’t, private parties) to receive 10 seconds to a few minutes of warning immediately following the occurrence of an earthquake.  More details can be found at:
